Less Bournville, more hills – new half-marathon route

The proposed new route for this year’s Birmingham half-marathon will leave out key Bournville attractions with runners no longer getting views of The Green or The Carillon. Local councillors have expressed concern that the village is being bypassed and have pledged to change the route back.

Jameica is new Festival Queen

15 year old Jameica Ellaway is Bournville’s new Festival Queen. She was chosen from amongst eight other girls at an event last Wednesday. A panel of judges also chose Ruth Goley for second place and Kate Hemmings in third.

Leverton and Halls relaunch

Leverton and Halls, the organic deli and café on Maryvale road in Bournville, has completed its refurbishment and is relaunching to further enhance Bournville’s growing reputation as a local food ‘hot spot’. Whilst still offering a deli Leverton and Halls have expanded their café and even offer free wifi to their customers

Maypole Queen to be chosen

Still fancy your chances of being Bournville’s Festival Queen? Well you’d better hurry as you only have until 7.30pm tonight when a “star-studded panel of expert judges” will choose the Queen for 2010.

Kraft agree to meet new community group

Senior management from Kraft have agreed to meet with a newly established community group from Bournville set up to ensure the takeover of Cadbury by Kraft is a positive development for the Bournville community.

Residents ask: “Give us our trees back”

UPDATED: Residents in Willow road in Bournville have accused the City Council of failing to adhere to conservation area rules by removing trees from the length of their road and then failing to reinstate them due to costs.

Maypole girls still wanted

The organisers of the annual Bournville Festival are worried that this year’s event will suffer if not enough girls come forward to volunteer to be maypole dancers. Although registration has already taken place there is still chance to join in as a petal girl, outside strings, gypsies, flower girls, crown bearer or herald.

Bournville to get new council houses

Birmingham City Council have won approval to build new council houses in Bournville. The planning committee decided to give the green light to plans for 100 council houses across a series of sites in the city with the Bounville site to accommodate 26 houses on the Ingoldsby Estate.

Website gets national recognition

Bournvillevillage.com may be a small website run by volunteers but it’s nice to see it getting some national recognition in a report by Socitm, the membership association for local authority ICT professionals.
