Bournville Culture – weekend round-up

rest house
There’s a range of individual arts and music events coming up in Bournville this weekend so we thought it worth listing a few here.

Bournville Jazz, from 2pm, 17th July:
The 26th Birmingham International Jazz Festival starts this week across Birmingham. Bournville is playing its part by co-hosting a ‘Jazz on Bournville Green’ event on Saturday afternoon. For the full programme and more details take a look at Bournville Village Council’s blog:

Art talk, 17th July, 3pm: Also on Saturday, and also located next to the Village Green, is a talk at International Project Space by artist Lucy Clout who will be in conversation with Alice Channer, accompanied by film and video selected by Lucy Clout. According to the gallery: “the new works on display employ a variety of media to engage with ideas of conjecture and emptiness, adopting and adapting a range of pedagogical models that have been developed from a historical understanding of gendered performance work.” Work by the photographer Keith Arnatt is also on display.

Sinfonia concert, 17th July, 8pm: The South Birmingham Sinfonia which is based in Bournville has a concert on Saturday evening in St Francis’ Church, Bournville. The Sinfonia are: “are a relaxed and friendly orchestra offering adult players of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to take part in amateur orchestral music making. We perform a broad range of music from major symphonic works and concertos with professional soloists to shorter classical and light pieces.” They will be playing peices by Bruvkner and Elgar.

Purple Gallery Summer Show: It’s also worth noting that the Purple Gallery on Maryvale road is continuing with its summer show, exhibiting, and selling, a range of work by 28 artists working in a variety of forms. Their website has biographies and examples of many of the works. The gallery also has a sculpture garden and serves teas and coffees. It is open Saturdays 10.00 am – 4.00 pm and Sundays 2.15 pm – 5.15 pm
