Back in the days when Dalziel and Pascoe was still a popular crime-busting BBC drama series, my street was used as a location for one of the sets. The location manager told us the Cadbury houses were great for the series, because many of them resembled Yorkshire houses – perfect for the fictional town of Wetherton where the drama was set.

Bournville is a popular location for films and TV series, and I was recently informed the corner of Mulberry Road on the junction of Woodlands Park Road saw a big film and camera crew set up camp. If anyone in this area knew what the filming was for, I’d be happy to update this post.
The Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School on Woodbrooke Road (now a technology college) was used in a 1980s episode of the ITV series Crossroads.
In 2006, the BBC filmed the Bournville Carillon for the Inside Out programme, screened that Autumn.

Hi,
I live on Woodlands Park Road, but I don’t know of any film crew taking up residence!, although, I do watch the BBC 1 series Doctors, this is filmed at The Mill Health Centre on the University campus on Bristol Road and there are always film crews outside there, I have also seen episodes that used a house on Cob Lane and lots of filming on Bristol Road, they have also used Bournville Green outside the shops and they also use Canon Hill Park and Weoley Castle Square a lot too.
Hope this may help in some way, perhaps I could try and contact the Doctors film crew and ask if they could let us know locations used in Bournville?
June.
Hi June,
Thanks for your comments. Who knew Bournville was used so much for BBC filming.
A flyer came through our door yesterday saying Doctors would be filming in the area – so I intend to find out just where exactly. Perhaps you could add the locations you know in Bournville where filming has taken place to the googlemap above. Then we would get an idea of everywhere in Bournville which has been captured on film!
Thanks again,
Your local correspondent.
Actually, Doctors has used our house on Beaumont Road about 3 times now. They’ve used a couple of other houses on the street as well. I suspect they rarely go more than a mile from their base in Selly Oak – must keep the costs down!
They were also filming Doctors on Hawthorne Road on Friday – the BBC turned up in full form for a ‘guest character’ scene – apparently they have a character’s house on Woodbrooke Road, and often film on Sycamore Road.
The scene from Hawthorne Road today will be screened in eight-10 weeks.
