Supporting Cadbury is Pure Poetry

Birmingham’s Poet Laureate Adrian Johnson is calling on Brummies to “eat up and stand up” to show their support for Cadbury. Along with professional storyteller and consultant, Katrice Horsley he is organising an event in Victoria Square on Saturday 16 January 2010 at 2 to 3 pm so that chocolate lovers can show their support for the takeover-threatened Bournville firm.

Adrian explained:

“Cadbury’s chocolate and its production in Birmingham is vital to the city and an iconic feature of family life across the UK. We want people to join us for an hour in the city centre and share a story and some Cadbury chocolate with people in the square. In this way we simply want to stand up and show our support for the very best possible long term deal for Cadbury employees .”

Participants will be invited to singalong with some classic Cadbury jingles including ‘Everyone’s a Fruit and Nut case,’ ‘Only the crumbliest flakiest chocolate,’ and ‘a finger of fudge is just enough.’ There are also plans for a chocolate conga round the square to the tune of “Cadbury’s take ‘em and they cover ‘em in chocolate!”

Katrice said:

“It’s a family event and will culminate in a simple ‘sweet swap’ from one member of the public to another. So bring a bag of chocolate buttons or a family size bar of Dairy milk to share. People can also dress up as the Milk Tray Man, in Cadbury purple or a green Freddo Frog, anything that celebrates the great chocolate making tradition of Cadbury’s – here in Birmingham.”
