Wide eye on Bournville

Rest House in the Snow

rest house by Pete Ashton

Here’s a lovely image of the Rest House by former Bournville resident Pete Ashton. Pete used to live above the shops on the green so he’s familiar with the area and has many images on his Flickr account that are worth a view. He’s wrestled with taking a good image of the Rest House for many years it seems:

“While most of Bournville was photogenic enough to warrant the cliche “shooting fish in a barrel” the Rest House proved to be quite a tricky one to get right. Something to do with the shape.”

This particular image was taken using a technique call ‘Through the Viewfinder’ which involves attaching a rather old analogue camera to a digital camera. The results as you can see, are stunning. Pete sells his work via an online shop. Do take time to look around:

  1. Thanks for the feature. Since I now live in Stirchley I’m probably going to do more shooting in Bournville come the spring so I may well have a range of prints or cards soon. I wonder where would be best to sell them?
