Star Wars Rogue One

Star Wars – Bournville’s Felicity Jones stars

A teaser trailer has been released for the next Star Wars film, Rogue One, giving fans a first look at Bournville’s Felicity Jones in the lead role.

It was announced last year that the former Kings Norton Girls’ School pupil would be in the new film, which is to be the first of a series of standalone Star Wars films.

Star Wars – Rogue One

“Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe,” says the film’s producer Kathleen Kennedy.

“It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know.”

The film tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the Death Star.

Jones plays Jyn Ursa. The trailer reveals she has been on her own “from the age of 15” and is “reckless, aggressive and undisciplined.”

Bournville born

32 year old Jones was brought up in Bournville and started her career in Birmingham, working with Central TV’s Children’s Television Workshop and performing as Emma Grundy in the Archers, recorded in Birmingham.

Jones went to King Norton’s Girl School and took her A-Levels at King Edward’s Handsworth before studying English at Oxford.

She was nominated for an Oscar last year for the film ‘Theory of Everything’.

Rogue One will be released on 16th December 2016.
