Stirchley Bowl demolition reveals past

With the demolition of Stirchley Bowl almost complete, there has been a glimpse into its past as the removal of cladding showed that the original sign was still partially intact.

Local resident Pete Ashton managed to take a picture of the sign ‘Tenpin Bowl’ which may date from the original conversion of the former ABC cinema into a combined cinema and blowing alley in 1962.

The building is being demolished ahead of the planned build of a Lidl supermarket.

The supermarket managed to win permission to demolish the building even though it lost an appeal against its planning application for the site.

It is expected that Lidl will submit a new planning application for a store during the autumn.
