A new set of DIY direction signs have appeared around Bournville station intended to help lost tourists trying to find the Cadbury World attraction. The signs appeared at the end of the summer but it’s unclear who created them.
Despite the large size of the Cadbury factory in Bournville it’s a regular occurrence to see lost tourists heading in the wrong direction once they leave the rail station.
There are no signs on the platforms telling passengers which of the two exits visitors should leave by. This might explain the appearance of the homemade signs that are now on platform 2 (for trains arriving from Birmingham) and outside the station at the Mary Vale Road exit.
Ironically, the signs tell visitors to go the long way round to the attraction and head out on to Mary Vale road, rather than simply go to the Bournville Lane exit where the factory is in front of them.
Cadbury World attracts about half a million visitors per year although it’s unknown how many arrive by train.
